Trailer ABS & Brake Checks

The trailer ABS lamp never lights at all during the power-up check. Why is that a concern worth reporting?

  • A.It proves the ABS is so reliable it needs no lamp
  • B.A lamp that never lights means the trailer brakes are locked
  • C.The lamp or the ABS itself may be dead, so you would get no warning of a fault and may have no antilock function; it should be checked and repaired
  • D.It is normal for the lamp to work only at night
Correct answer

C. The lamp or the ABS itself may be dead, so you would get no warning of a fault and may have no antilock function; it should be checked and repaired

Why

A warning system that cannot light is the same as having no warning system. Since you cannot tell a healthy ABS from a failed one without the check lamp, the defect is reported like any other brake fault.
