Under the adverse driving conditions exception, what may a driver extend, and by how much?

  • A.Any limit may be extended without limit
  • B.Only the weekly limit by 10 hours
  • C.The break requirement is waived for a week
  • D.The driving limit and the duty window may each be extended by up to 2 hours when unexpected adverse conditions are encountered
Correct answer

D. The driving limit and the duty window may each be extended by up to 2 hours when unexpected adverse conditions are encountered

Why

When conditions such as unexpected snow, fog, or a crash slow the run and were not known at dispatch, the driver may extend the 11 and 14 limits by up to 2 hours to complete the run or reach safety. The exception does not apply to conditions that were known before the trip began.
