What is the minimum tread depth allowed on the front (steering) tires of a commercial motor vehicle?
- A.2/32 inch
- B.3/32 inch
- C.4/32 inch
- D.6/32 inch
Correct answer
C. 4/32 inch
Why
Steering tires must have at least 4/32 inch of tread depth in every major groove. Other tires need at least 2/32 inch, so using the 2/32 figure for the front axle would leave the truck illegal and harder to steer on wet pavement.
