Vehicle Inspection

You find a cracked or bent rim during your pre-trip inspection. What should you do?

  • A.Drive slowly until the next scheduled service
  • B.Add extra air to stiffen the wheel
  • C.Mark the crack and report it at the end of the trip
  • D.Do not drive the vehicle until the rim is repaired or replaced
Correct answer

D. Do not drive the vehicle until the rim is repaired or replaced

Why

A damaged rim can fail suddenly and cause a tire blowout or loss of the wheel, so the vehicle must stay out of service until it is fixed. Slowing down or adding air does not remove the structural defect.
